Melanie Van Latum
Happy 2009 Everyone! As most of you know, I am now Mrs. Melanie Van Latum. Though I have taken my married name, most of my street painting clients and colleagues still know me via www.MelanieStimmell.com. So, it will remain online and is still a great way to reach me.
To promote my permanent works on paper and canvas I will be hosting a new website, designed by myself and e-remmie, dedicated solely to my Fine Art. www.MelanieVanLatum.com
My first event as Mrs. Van Latum will be street painting at a new Fine Art Gallery in downtown called Deborah Martin Gallery. The opening show March 12th, entitled "Imagine", will showcase the work of local photographers and my indoor, canvas street painting.

Welcome friend, Street Painting Tutorial DVD
August of '08, I worked in conjunction with StreetPainting.nl, of Holland, to create a tutorial DVD entitled "The Street Painter's Guide to the Pavement. Volume 1: Getting Started". It is the first DVD of it's kind and was filmed entirely in Holland on the Utrecht University Campus. We have covered the basics in this 15 minute video, from the supplies you need, to actually applying color and achieving realistic textures such as hair, skin, and even satin.

And the Season Begins!
My first street painting festival of the season is this the Corpus Christi Arts Festival in Texas, March 27th and 28th. This is the third year of the event and participation of friend Julie Kirk and I. We will paint together again in Phoenix Arizona the following weekend for their debut street painting event.
Flickr & Via Colori Event
I have had a wonderful relationship with Houston's Via Colori Street Painting Festival which benefits The Center for Hearing and Speech
. 2009 will mark my fourth year painting for their festival and it is my pleasure to be painting for their special event this Spring. Last Fall Houston's Via Colori held a wonderful competition in conjunction with Flickr.com for the best street painting photography. This April they will host the Via Colori Photography Show & Sponsor Kick-off Reception where twenty photos will be selected for display during an open house at Caroline Collective and Via Colori 2009 Sponsor kick-off reception. After the show, the framed 11 x 16 photographs will be auctioned off at Via Colori 2009 with the proceeds benefitting The Center for Hearing and Speech. I will be creating a very special street painting during the event in honor of The Center's work.
Visual Arts Scholastic Event
I am very honored to be invited back as the featured performing artist for Houston's Visual Arts Scholastic Event, or VASE. My last performance in 2007 left the organization with a 12 x 12 foot original, canvas street painting which they displayed at events throughout the year. This year I will return to create another original street painting, on canvas, which will include an interactive border that will allow audience to participate in the painting process.
